INTEGRATION

Embedding psychological safety into performance systems: The Integration that makes change stick.

Client Overview

Following successful Inquiry and Intervention phases, several organisations partnered with Brain Matters to embed psychological safety and high-performance behaviours into their long-term people systems. While training shifts behaviour, Integration ensures these behaviours become part of how the organisation works – consistently reinforced through processes, tools, and decision-making frameworks.

Our Approach

Across clients, Brain Matters helped redesign people processes that shape everyday behaviour and decision-making.

1. RECRUITMENT
Brain Matters helped various clients redesign their recruitment lifecycle to embed best practices around the neuroscience of decision-making and bias mitigation. We helped clients apply meritocracy and DEI the way it is meant to be applied: by designing a lifecycle that allows them to find the best candidates using objective, inclusive, and fair processes.

2. PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
For several of our clients annual, backward-looking reviews were replaced with quarterly check-ins logged in the client’s HRIS. These conversations focused on high-performance behaviours that were identified during the Inquiry Phase, and trained during the Intervention phase. In addition we integrated best practices around performance management from our Brain Matters Model. This ensured leaders consistently practised and reinforced the behaviours introduced during training.

3. LEADERSHIP SKILLS-BEHAVIOURS-COMPETENCY FRAMEWORK
To improve succession and talent decisions, Brain Matters co-developed a framework defining:

  • Essential leadership skills
  • Observable behaviours linked to high performance
  • Bias mitigation practices to ensure high-quality succession decisions
This ensured leadership progression was based not only on results, but on how those results were achieved.

IMPACT

The Integration phase has consistently delivered:

  • Better hiring decisions
  • More effective performance management
  • Better leadership development and succession decisions
Integration ensures psychological safety and high-performance behaviours are not dependent on individual leaders, but embedded into the organisation’s infrastructure.
